Elementos de interés:

Li, Co, Ni

Research and development of technologies that enable the fast, costeffective, and reliable integration of Electrified Vehicles into the Spanish market. Transport electrification is one of the most important lines of action, as this sector accounts for around one third of global energy consumption, with more than 90% of its energy demand currently supplied by fossil resources.

Descripción del proyecto:

Endoflife automotive battery recycling

Development of an industrial process for the recovery of lithium and valuable metals contained in automotive batteries at the end of their life cycle, and the production of a lithium product meeting the specifications required for the manufacture of new batteries. The process consists of:

  • Development of a leaching process to obtain lithium in solution, suitable for subsequent treatment in a precipitation stage aimed at producing a solid containing all interfering elements, while lithium and copper remain in the aqueous phase.

  • Development of a solvent extraction stage to recover copper from the aqueous solution, followed by selective precipitation to obtain lithium phosphate suitable for the manufacture of new batteries.
