Development of an Efficient and Sustainable Intermodal Transport Station.

The objective of the ESTEFI project is to develop a solution that efficiently addresses public transport needs in urban environments through a new intermodality concept (tram, bus, electric vehicle, and elevator), which will functionally integrate the most innovative technologies in energy storage. Through the design of an optimized microgrid, to which different transport modes and loads (horizontal and vertical) are connected, based on stateoftheart Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and power electronics (power converters), the demand for power from the main grid will be minimized. The intermodal station will integrate highpower energy storage systems capable of coping with peak energy demand, thereby ensuring the availability and stability of the microgrid.

The objectives of Técnicas Reunidas within the project are as follows:

  • To develop the energy storage systems (ESS) of the intermodal station and their applications according to the overall energy requirements of the station and of each individual application.
  • To obtain versatile energy storage solutions compatible with different vehicular transport applications.
  • To develop a stationary energy storage solution specifically designed for an intermodal transport microgrid, enabling the exploitation of synergies among the different transport elements (both horizontal and vertical), with the aim of reducing energy consumption and promoting a more responsible use of resources.
