RECYCLION® technology contributes efficiently and safely to the supply of critical metals within the industrial value chain of electric and connected vehicles (ECVs), promoting a sustainable model that is integrated into a circular economy and has a lower environmental footprint.
Lithium-ion batteries, key components in electromobility, contain critical metals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt (black mass) as active materials. Proper management of these batteries at the end of their useful life is essential to minimize the consumption of scarce and costly natural resources and prevent environmental pollution.
To ensure this, this alternative, sustainable, and efficient hydrometallurgical technology is available, guaranteeing high recovery of valuable metals.
The core of the Recyclion® technology consists of:
1
An initial stage of black mass processing, recovering lithium as a product suitable for industrial applications.
Leaching stages of the conditioned black mass to recover lithium, nickel, and cobalt in the form of an aqueous solution.
Stages of impurity removal and conditioning of aqueous solutions through chemical precipitation.
Stages of purification, concentration, and separation using solvent extraction.
5
Production of lithium, nickel, and cobalt products for the synthesis of cathode materials for EV batteries.
Technology developed at the Jose Lladó Technology Center of Técnicas Reunidas in collaboration with the Swiss foundation ZAR (Stiftung Zentrum für Nachhaltige Abfall- und Ressourcennutzung).
