The project aims to jointly develop a mineral concentration process and a novel hydrometallurgical process, supported by advanced purification techniques, enabling the efficient processing of lowgrade or polymetallic concentrates. The process will focus on the recovery of copper, zinc, and lead, as well as minor metals such as silver, cobalt, and indium.

Scope of work

  • Copper and zinc extraction and deposition
    Development of a process based on
    solvent extraction technology capable of selectively and sequentially extracting copper and zinc, while remaining compatible with the presence of other metals as impurities.
  • Recovery of metals from leaching residues
    Development of a technology for the recovery of
    lead, silver, and other valuable metals from leaching residues of lowgrade or polymetallic concentrates. The Ecolead® technology, previously proven for other substrates, will be evaluated, as well as extraction using methanesulfonic acid (MSA). Additionally, the recovery of critical metals such as indium, cobalt, and antimony will be addressed.
  • Pilot plant design and operation
    Design of a
    pilot plant to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed process. The results obtained at pilot scale will be evaluated in terms of efficiency, cost, ease of operation, and environmental impact.
