ZINCEX® technology offers a robust, reliable, and flexible alternative for the processing of minerals and zinc concentrates that are difficult to treat using conventional methods. This technology is the industry’s leading solution for zinc production via hydrometallurgical solvent extraction.
A clear demonstration of the technology’s versatility is that it has been successfully implemented in Spain, Namibia, Japan, Italy, and the U.S., using a wide variety of raw materials (including, among others, oxidized ores, Waelz oxides, and spent batteries) and with processing capacities ranging from 2,000 to 150,000 metric tons per year of zinc.
The key to ZINCEX®’s success lies in its ability to treat zinc-laden solutions across a wide range—from 1 g/l to 160 g/l of zinc—making it ideal for use in a variety of projects and applications, along with its ability to produce an electrolyte of the highest purity by creating insurmountable barriers not only to typical impurities such as nickel, cobalt, cadmium, etc., but also to other elements such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, chlorine, and fluorine, which have a detrimental effect on zinc electrolysis.
The following figure compares the behavior of the main impurities in the ZINCEX® process and in RLE (Roasting Leaching Electrowinning) technology:
